SC State Crit Championship

Since my post will in no way match Kenny's delightful thoughts, I thought I would just keep it simple and to the point. I raced the SC State Crit race this past Sunday in Charleston, SC. While the majority of the crew kept it local, racing the SC State MTB race in Columbia, I opted for the the crit. I had the pleasure of having some company make the trip with me this time as opposed to my usual solo missions. Joshie and the always elegant KB made the trip to support me.

I must say that I've never really felt so pressured to perform. I was the only Hoff representing on the road, KB and Josh were expecting a good show for their travel efforts, and the rest of the crew was wondering why I had more support than they did. Not to mention while warming up directly across from all the bigger teams tents I had the duo snapping photos like crazed poparattzi. Lets just say the pressure was on..!
As far as the race goes. I felt good, pulling back a few attacks and making my presence known... With a super flat and non technical course, it came down to a bunch sprint as expected . I was sitting about 8th or 9th wheel going into the last (very sharp) turn, so I knew I was in a pretty decent position. The sprint went down and I ended up pulling out a 4th place finish. Honestly the 3 that finished in front just had more in a sprint than I did with 3rd place beating me by about a bike length.
I am both happy and bummed with my performance. I would have liked to have had a podium finish and collect a medal but 4th out of 30 of some of SC biggest hitters ain't too shabby.

Also thanks to Joshie and KB! It was awesome having you guys with me this time!
